Update.

I have faved all deviations submitted to the club and put them into storage (just in case, to avoid submitting them again). A few images were missing, I stepped also on abandoned accounts. I'll remove these if owners will not contact the club.
Regarding missing images - you should inform us about deletion. If that's another reason - simply I couldn't locate them in your folders, let us know where they are.
Check your deviations I faved in clubs name and let us know about changes you want to be done.

As you can see there are folders in our favourites folder which serves as club's gallery now. I'll be shifting deviations among folders later, some went to wrong ones. Also I need to rethink what are directions to put images in certain folders, like Sketchbook for example.

We need better names for folders, either. As we've got really nice name for poetry and prose. The names don't have to be in Quenya, but would be nice if they were inspired by the Silmarillion or Arda. Suggestions are welcomed!

Hello club members and well-wishers


I consider changing our submissions method from re-submitting every deviation to the club into collecting these - or faving, to be precise. It has appeared faving member's work is no dA policy violation anymore. More - the idea to use collections instead of submissions in clubs and groups comes from the director of Artist Relations Team $Moonbeam13 Please read her journal entry focused on this issue: [link] and her tempting offer and challenge [link]

What way it would work: I'll fav all the images you have submitted to the club and delete everything from club's gallery. Then all images you'll submit in notes will get faved and we'll be updating journal to inform you that our collection has been updated. Not a new entry each time but the same one with notifications sent - I want to keep the number of journal entries low to find all useful information easily.

dA team is working on a brand new groups system, which will let us submit deviations to the club easily (no details are known, yet). For now I have already decided to switch to collections system, but I want to know what you folks think of it first). If many objections appear we'll stay with the present slow system, but I believe there are more advantages with taking $Moonbeam13's challenge [link]

The 30^th Anniversary of the Silmarillion Project

Like the subject line says, a book we all love is nearing its 30th publication anniversary - 09/15/1977 marks the day the Silmarillion was first published, and now, 30 years later, we need your help to celebrate!

"I would draw some of the great tales in fullness, and leave many only placed in the scheme, and sketched. The cycles should be linked to a majestic whole, and yet leave scope for other minds and hands, wielding paint and music and drama. Absurd."

It's not all that absurd, is it? The fans, here on DA and elsewhere, have made that abundantly clear - and the brilliant ~Qitian had the fabulous idea to gather all contributions to this very special day in one place. For the rest of the month (starting on the 15th), feel free to share all paint, music, drama, and other Silmarillion-related material in the Silmarillion Anniversary Celebration community [link] on LiveJournal. Your material doesn't have to be new either - whatever you want to post, please do so! Don't have an LJ account, don't want to join just for the project, but want to contribute nonetheless? No problem, just send a mail with your material to 30yearssilm(at)googlemail(dot).com, note me or reply to this post, and we'll see it done!

Special Project Announcement: Seven in '07

^{In the name of Dawn Felagund I'm passing you SWG news:}

As part of a special publication for the month of July, the Silmarillion Writers' Guild is seeking short fiction, poems, excerpts of longer fiction and poems, and artwork for inclusion in a compilation about the House of Fëanor. Seven in '07 seeks to show the diversity of creative works inspired by the House of Fëanor, and we invite all Tolkien fan-writers and -artists to consider sending in work for inclusion in this project.

Currently, we are seeking the following:

* Short fiction under 200 words about the House of Fëanor.
* Short poems under 20 lines about the House of Fëanor.
* Excerpts of longer works (fiction or poems) about the House of Fëanor. The excerpts should not exceed 200 words.
* Visual art (drawings, paintings, et cetera) focusing on the House of Fëanor.

Currently, we have compilations planned for Fëanor and each of his seven sons. Compilations for Nerdanel and Celebrimbor may also follow, so creative work about any of these characters is welcome.

The deadline for submissions is Sunday, 24 June 2007. We will let you know after that which of your submissions we will be including in the compilation, and the compilation will be released on 1 July 2007.

Please, be patient with us. Real life doesn't allow us to login as often as we would like to.

Hello all and sorry for the long delay. I've been very busy with my degree and jobs work experience recently, and judging by the lack of updates, so have my co admins.

Anyhow, I've been through all the messages and I think I've added everyone who wanted adding and submitted pretty much all of the suitable artwork I've been sent.

I got an email relating to something those of you who live in and around New York might be interested in:

'I (not me, Adam Klein, the guy who mailed me) wrote an opera based on the chapcet Of Beren and Luthien, called LEITHIAN, and it will be heard for the first time at 7 PM on July 1st, 2006 in New York City at a place called Liederkranz Hall. Actually it's too long for one 3-hour concert, so we're doing the first half, up to when Luthien discovers Beren in the pits of Tol-in-Gaurhoth. (I leave the accent off Luthien only because I don't trust the Web mail system to preserve it on your computer.)

I'm writing to you as part of a large web search to make sure I let as many people know, who would want to know, as I can. I'd hate for Tolkien fans who could have heard the concert to kick themselves for finding out too late. This is a one-time event and will not be rebroadcast while this Age lasts.'



Might well be worth checking out if you're that side of the water, and indeed, that particular continent.
